Air transport: airspace between Cameroon and Algeria open

The President of the Republic, H.E. Paul BIYA, signs decree ratifying the Air Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cameroon and the Government of the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria.

Air transport: airspace between Cameroon and Algeria open

This decree signed on August 1, 2023 by the President of the Republic relating to air transport services, marks the launch of air links between Algeria and Cameroon with their two respective national companies (Air Algérie and Camair-Co); and focus is on passengers and air freights.

The coming of the Agreement will considerably reduce the cost of travel; the travel time with Europe and other African countries. It will also improve connectivity and international cooperation.

It is worth recalling that the Agreement was signed on February 24, 2021 in Yaounde between the plenipotentiaries of the two countries: the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLÈ BIBÉHÈ representing the Republic of Cameroon and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria to Cameroon, H.E BEDJAOUI MERZAK.

Beyond air services, this Agreement will promote the development and proximity of the populations of the two countries, promote tourism and intensify trade between Cameroon and Algeria.

Equally, Cameroon and Algeria aim to intensify their cooperation in the field of transport and meteorology. It is within this framework that, following instructions from the President of the Republic, Cameroon's Minister of Transport signed on May 15, 2023 in Algeria, with his Algerian counterpart, Mr. Youcef CHERFA, a Framework Cooperation Agreement in the field of transport and meteorology. The Agreement, it is said, is based on mutual interest, in compliance with the legislation and regulations in force in the two countries. This, it is believed, will contribute to the consolidation of ties between Cameroon and Algeria.
