Cameroon: the National Assembly is interested in statelessness

The Committee on Constitutional Laws, Human Rights and Freedoms, Justice, Legalisation and Administrative Rules and Regulations today 7 December 2022, held an Information Session for Parliamentarians on the issue of Statelessness in Cameroon. The meeting took place at the Committee Room A of the Yaounde Conference Center. The sitting was chaired by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Zondol Herssesse and it was attended by officials of the High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

Amongst them was Mr. Olivier Guillaume Beer, UNHCR Representative in Cameroon and Mme. Bertina Gambert, Assistant to the UNHCR Representative in charge of protection. Also present at the meeting was the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon, Hilarion Etong and a good number of Members of Parliament and Senators.  The meeting of the Constitutional Committee was closed by Hon. Mary Muyali Boya Epse Meboka, Deputy Speaker. 

Also today, the first Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the Network of Parliamentarians for the Promotion of Civil Status in Cameroon took place in the Committee Room B of the Yaounde Conference Center. 

The main reason of today's meeting was first of all for Members of the network to present the  action plan of the network. They also used the meeting to advocate for a strong synergy with the stakeholders in charge of civil status in Cameroon so as to promote the acquisition of civil status documents in the Country. 

The deliberations of the meeting were chaired by Hon. François BIBA, President of the Network and Senator S.M. Mama Jean Marie, Vice President. Representatives of BUNEC were present in the meeting.
