LOBE-KRIBI IRON ORE MINING PROJECT: A CALMER CLIMATE!
This was noted during the working visit of the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Prof. Fruh Calistus, to the seaside town of Kribi on April 17th and 18th, 2023.
The populations of the localities of Ebodje, Mbenji, Bouandjo, Doumessamedjang and Malaba, impacted by the project have finally accepted it. This follows a series of information and sensitisation meetings conducted with mastery by the authorities of the Ocean division under the leadership of the Senior Divisional Officer, NOUHOU BELLO.
This assent was translated by the calmness of their representatives at Mont Mamelles, during the visit of Professor Fruh Calistus, on the installations of the Cameroonian subsidiary of the Chinese company, Sinosteel Cam S.A, on Monday, April 17th 2023. Also, one could note the easy deployment of the company's executives in the grabde forest of Mamelles.
The support of the Cameroonians of Campo towards the exploitation project of the iron deposit of Mont Mamelles, despite the vehement request on its denomination, is now total. They support the policy of infrastructural development promoted by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, and are ready to accompany Sinosteel Cam S.A. in the realisation of this great project.
With this umpteenth infrastructural achievement of high quality, the Ocean Division will inevitably become an important economic hub of Cameroon and the sub-region. The realisation of the Lobe-Kribi iron ore mining project in the Campo subdivision will undoubtedly boost Cameroon's economy, but also and above all develop Campo; a locality that has long remained on the fringes of the country's modernisation policy.
Campo is a borough without anything! The road is passable and almost impassable in the rainy season despite the efforts of the company Camvert S.A., the supply of water and electricity is inadequate, not to mention the lack of health facilities, schools and teachers.
The company's ambitions!
Sinosteel Cam S.A, the Cameroonian subsidiary of the Chinese mining giant, Sinosteel Corporation Ltd, is the company in charge of exploiting the Lobe-Kribi iron ore deposit in the Campo subdivision. The Chinese company, for a good deployment, puts the social component at the centre of its operating policy. The proof is that during the demarcation of the exploitation site as well as the assessment of the properties impacted by the project, the Chinese party used local people to the fullest extent. Sinosteel has also promised to build the road, electrify the Campo subdivision and build several other health infrastructures.
