Cooperation: Cameroon and Algeria sign framework agreement in the fields of transport and meteorology

On the instruction of the President of the Republic, H.E Paul BIYA and with intention to solidify diplomatic relations between Cameroon and Algeria, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE on May 15, 2023 in Algiers, Algeria, with his Algerian counterpart Youcef CHERFA, signed a framework agreement in the transport and meteorology sectors.

Based on mutual interest and in accordance with legislations and regulations in force in both countries, the agreement establishes: cooperation between the research and training institutes of both countries in the field of transport and meteorology; legal framework to strengthen trade in the air and maritime sectors; exchange of experience and expertise between regulatory and supervisory structures, particularly in the air and maritime sectors; common research programs and organization of training courses for the benefits of students and trainees from the two countries in public establishments.

In prelude to the actual signing of this agreement, the Algerian Minister granted audience to the Cameroonian delegation headed by Minister Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE. The audience provided a platform for technical works to be held among experts from both countries under the coordination of both Members of Government. Areas of pivotal interest were fields of air, maritime, rail transports and meteorology.

For the two countries, it was priority to do a situational analysis and present areas of cooperation to be developed. In this light, discussions were held between the managers of CAMAIR-CO and Air-Algeria in view of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of aircraft maintenance, training, commercial relations for a gain-gain partnership.

While in Algeria, it was an opportunity for the Cameroonian delegation to have first-hand experience of the varied Algerian transport infrastructures. They visited the aircraft maintenance workshop of the Air-Algeria Airline Company where Minister Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE was able to appreciate the Algerian know-how through, among others, the tyre workshop, engine testing and assembly of aircraft engines, for various types on aircraft including Boeing 737 and Airbus A330. Minister Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE also visited the National Office of Meteorology, an autonomous structure in charge of providing meteorological services in Algeria. The Cameroonian delegation also visited the Port of Algiers and the National Maritime School.

The Cameroonian delegation returns home in full satisfaction of a consolidated and beneficial diplomatic relations in the transport and meteorological domains.
