The solemn swearing-in ceremony of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, elected in the October 12th election, took place this Thursday, November 6th, 2025, at the Paul Biya Glass Palace.

An unusual calmness characterized the early hours of Yaounde today, Thursday 6 November 2025. The calmness was no doubt a sign of a day that was pregnant with meaning and importance in the minds of Cameroonians. This was the historic date that President Paul Biya ascended to the highest office of the Republic of Cameroon in 1982 and as fate will have it, he was back at the National Assembly again today to take his eight oaths of office.

Prior to this event today, the entire National Assembly Administration on its part, carried out the finest and the most detailed preparations that are reserved only for somebody with the grandeur of President Paul Biya. The decoration was top notch and so was every aspect that had to do with the organization of the oath-taking ceremony.

The activities of the day started at 11:30am with the opening of the Sitting by the Right Honorable Speaker, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril who suspended the Sitting after a while as he moved out with the Vice President of the Senate, the President of the Constitutional Council and the President of the Supreme Court to receive the President of the Republic. When it was 12: 00pm on the clock, the silence that engulfed the House Chamber of the Paul Biya Glass House was telling enough that the man of the moment, President Paul Biya was in the National Assembly premises.

This profound silence was suddenly broken by thunderous applause from all and sundry as President Paul Biya walked into the Plenary Hall, a moment which ushered the start of serious business. Going by the agenda of the day, there was firstly the singing of the National anthem. This was then followed by the opening speech presented by the Right Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. In his speech, he started by welcoming his august guest on behalf of all the Members of Parliament and the plethora of guests present.

In his highly applauded speech, the Right Honorable Speaker congratulated the President of the Republic for his well-deserved victory during the October 12 Presidential Election. He went further to lay emphasis on the fact that the current National Assembly Complex is the only Building in Cameroon that officially bears President Paul Biya's illustrious name.

He thanked the President immensely for this singular honor bestowed on the National Assembly and for offering the Lawmakers a befitting working environment. At the end of his speech, the Right Honorable Speaker, invited the President-Elect to rise up and take his oath of office. After the Right Honorable Speaker read out the oath, President Paul Biya responded with the famous words" I DO SO SWEAR ". He was treated to a standing ovation, accompanied by warm clapping and songs of praise.

The moment the entire Nation was waiting for then came as President Paul Biya took to the rostrum to address his fellow compatriots. His speech was thoughtful, promising and engaging from start to finish. The sound of a pin could be heard from a distance because the audience once again went into deep silence as they accorded the President's speech the full attention it deserved. One of the most hopeful things that emanated from President Paul Biya's speech was his pledge to put Women and Youths at the center of his actions in his new term of office.

He also highlighted that there will be much improvement in the energy sector and a ruthless battle against corruption. Talking about the post-election situation that the country is currently experiencing, he said the elections are behind us, so it is time for Cameroonians to move forward. He ended with firm words that; order will return back across the Country in the days ahead.

The last segment of the swearing-in ceremony was the signing of the oath-taking act which was signed by the President of the Supreme Court, the President of the Constitutional Council, the first Vice President of the Senate who sat in for the President of the Senate, the Right Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly, and the President of the Republic of Cameroon.

It should be noted that President Paul Biya came to the National Assembly as the President-Elect of the Republic of Cameroon but he left as the President of the Republic of Cameroon after his oath of office was received by Members of the National Assembly, Senators, Members of the Constitutional Council and Members of the Supreme Court. This State ritual was witnessed by an impressive number of state dignitaries and Members of the diplomatic corp accredited to Cameroon.

The size of the caravan and the glamour that accompanied the exit of President Paul Biya from the National Assembly demonstrated the greatness of the Man, Paul Biya, who has sacrificed his entire life at the service of the Cameroonian people.
