The curtains of the March 2023 Ordinary Session has been drawn at the National Assembly

The 2023 March Ordinary Session of Parliament has come to an end at the National Assembly today 1 April 2023 at 11: 30am at the Yaoundé Conference Centre.

The high point of today's closing Plenary Sitting was the speech of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. He started his speech by paying a heart - warming tribute to Hon. Ndongo Essomba Jean Bernard for all his achievements at the National Assembly.  He described the departed MP as a versatile person in all respect. He also said that the former Chief Whip of the CPDM Parliamentary Group at the National Assembly was a staunch militant of the CPDM Party which he defended like a bishop would defend his cathedral. 

The Speaker also noted in his speech that he is satisfied with the measures that have already been taken by the Government to render travelling safe on major highways. He concluded on this issue that Members of Parliament would in particular, like security measures to be stepped up in the Littoral Region because of its economic importance. 

The most prominent activities that happened during the Session include; the election of the Permanent Bureau of the House, the putting in place of the nine General Committees of the National Assembly and their respective offices, the holding of a plethora of seminars by some Committees and Parliamentary Networks. 

The Rt. Hon. Speaker granted an audience to H.E. Dr. Faisal Saud Falmejfel, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Cameroon on March 30, 2023. This high profile audience took place on the sidelines of the March Session. Also within this period, the Speaker visited the ongoing construction site of the New National Assembly Building.

 

The second preparatory meeting for the upcoming Commonwealth Africa Region Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference that will take place in Cameron from the 12 -22 July, also took place during the March Session. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Mary Muyali Meboka, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee. The meeting witnessed an overwhelming presence and participation of Members of the National Assembly.

 

In all, there is a general feeling of satisfaction among the Members of the National Assembly for what they have achieved during this Session. They are now focused to face the challenges of the June 2023 Session that is coming up in two months’ time.
