National Assembly : November 2022 Ordinary Session opens with high hopes

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril presided over the opening of the ordinary session of the National Assembly on 11 November 2022 at 11:00 am at the Yaounde Conference Center which is still playing host to the National Assembly.

The Session november 2022 session is more devoted to the scrutiny and  adoption of the 2023 State Budget.The opening plenary sitting witnessed the presence of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief, Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, members of Government and the Diplomatic corps.

In his opening speech, the Speaker recalled the difficult context Cameroon is experiencing with the various crisis going on in the Northwest, Southwest as well as in the Far North Region. According to the Speaker, these crisis still remain a major issue of concern in the Country. He also mentioned health crisis that are currently rocking the Country such as the spread of Covid-19, Monkey Pox and Cholera. He praised the Government for giving an adequate response to all these health problems. He also spoke of climate and energy problems which remain worrisome. 

He commended the Government for limiting  the effects of inflation in Cameroon through the measures prescribed by the Head of State. This measures he said include: subsidies for petroleum products and certain tax and customs facilities. The decentralisation process, universal health coverage, the visit of the  French President Emmanuel Macron during the inter-session were among other very important issues raised in the opening speech of the Rt. Hon. Speaker. 

He ended his presentation by  conveying his gratitude to the President of the Republic, His Excellency President Paul Biya, for the allocation of 165 billion 334 million CFA francs for a special programme in the Far North Region. The Speaker of the National Assembly also used the occasion to encourage and wish good luck to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon who will be taking part in the world Cup in Qatar in the days ahead.
